Rank Reports Healthy Financials which Shirk Recession

Bingo powerhouse Rank has reported some bittersweet financial results this week as they revealed the number of people visiting their bingo halls has dropped, whilst users of their online site and iPad app have risen.

A fall of 2% over the first quarter of 2012 has been attributed to the economic downturn, despite additional events such as After Dark games which has attracted younger players. These events have spiced up stuffy old games with the addition of spicy bingo calls, alcoholic drinks and specialist prizes.

Mecca bingo app has boosted sales in Q1 2012

Meccabingo.com on the other hand enjoyed a rapid increase in sales, 19% higher than the  same time last year. This increase has partly been down to the new Apple iPad, which the group says has driven solid growth. Ian Burke, Rank Group Chairman says,”I am pleased that the group continues to achieve solid revenue growth despite a challenging trading environment.”

Rank has recently turned down a deal to buy Gala Coral but is rumored to be in the running for a takeover deal of Grosvenor casinos. If this were to happen it would make Rank the largest company in the sector, overtaking Genting casino.
